‘Where the Winds Die’ on way to Athens ANIMFEST

The 2022 Athens ANIMFEST in Greece has been slated to screen Iranian short animation ‘Where the Winds Die’.

Directed by Pejman Alipour, the 12-minute short will be among the works to compete at the 17th edition of the Greek film event.

‘Where the Winds Die’ is about the chemical attack by the Iraqi regime on the Iranian town of Sardasht, in West Azarbaijan Province, in 1987.

The then dictator of Iraq bombarded Sardasht with chemical weapons, killing more than 1,000 and injuring more than 8,000 civilians, many of whom were permanently disabled.

A brief synopsis for the flick on the official website of the event reads, “SARDASHT is a Kurdish city in West of IRAN.SARDASHT is the first city in the world to be victim of chemical weapons with mustard gas bombs at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 28th 1987. This film is about before, after the bombing, also a romantic relationship between a couple and finally, the effects of the post-war.”

The film has already been on screen at a number of global events, including the Music Film Festival in France and the timeless Awards in Poland.

The Athens ANIMFEST is an annual international animation film festival in Greece. The event aims to give chance to Greek and foreign artists to show their talent and restless spirit.

This year’s edition of the fest, also set to host Iran’s ‘The Fourth Wall’ by Maedeh Kalaee, ‘Eat, Ate…’ by Shidokht Dezham Shahabi, Mona Shahi’s ‘Red Fire’, and Vahid Aalam’s ‘Dark Room’ is slated for March 17-20.
